Alright, let’s get to business. Saturday was spent recovering from the night before, and the 2 showcases I was in on Thursday and Friday. I also did a bit of brainstorming on some of the finer points of the monthly goal for March (more to come later). Also watched “Everything is Illuminated” for the first time, and I absolutely loved it. Yay Liev Schreiber (love him love him love him)!

Sunday I saw “A Single Man,” with Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Nicholas Hoult, and Matthew Goode (who I only recently was informed played Adrian Veight in Watchmen. who’da thunk it?). Oh man, how I loved this movie. Absolutely fantastic on all counts. If it weren’t for the academy’s proclivity for handing out awards more for entire careers rather than specific performances, I’d say Colin Firth had this one in the bag. Jeff Bridges will probably win (and I haven’t seen Crazy Heart, so I can’t say he doesn’t deserve it), but I am just so incredibly inspired and impressed with not only Colin Firth’s performance, but the directing of Tom Ford. Super recommend. Also, there was a mouse in my boyfriend’s kitchen. Not so pleasant.

Today is March 1st, so it’s time for a new monthly goal. My goal for February was to define my image/brand, and while the project is definitely not finished, I made some great strides in accomplishing that. As for March, I’m setting my goal: To get in better shape, and lose some weight. As crappy as the reality of this is, the entertainment industry is all about image and stereotypes. You can’t get the part if you don’t fit the image that the casting staff has in their heads, and most of those images are of thin women. At least the parts that I want, and know I am good enough to get. I’m not huge, but I’ve gained some weight since last year, and I know that it is in the best interest of my career in the long run (not to mention my health) to get back into fighting shape. So here’s what I’ve come up with so far, for at least March:

  • In the month of March, I will not drink any soda.
  • No fast food.
  • Go to the gym at least 3 days a week.
  • lighten up on the candy and chocolate.
  • More fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Better lunches at work.
  • Leave the house more on the weekends.
  • Eat smaller portions.

If any of you have any more suggestions of things I can do, please pipe up and let me know. I would love to get back into dancing, so let me know if there are some good opportunities around.

Now, I’m not setting a specific weight loss goal, since I’m very wary of scales (I was on weight watchers a couple of years ago, and while I had good success, I was left with a visceral hatred for stepping on scales). But I will be paying close attention to how my clothes feel, and how my body feels in general. I can’t go to the gym today, but I will be going grocery shopping tonight and looking out for healthier choices to stock up on. I will keep you informed of my progress, of course.

ALSO: I will be performing in 2 cabaret showcases this week! AAH! Wednesday and Friday, 7pm, at Don’t Tell Mama. Seth Bisen-Hersh is celebrating 100 showcases at Don’t Tell Mama in 3 nights of fabulous showcases featuring his own music. I am doing 2 of the 3 shows, singing his song “Sex With The Ex.” VERY FUNNY. I actually need 1 person to come to see me for each show, so if you can manage to come, I would be so thankful! You can reserve your seat here for Wednesday, and here for Friday. It’s a $12 cover, plus 2 drinks. It’s a great space, with great music and singers. Please let me know if you can come, you won’t be disappointed, I promise! COME!

Let’s Get It Started

Well, kids, here I am. I am embarking on a mission for the rest of 2010, and possibly beyond. I am vowing to do at least one thing, every day, to benefit my acting career. Specifically focused on networking and marketing myself as an actor. I’ll also do whatever I can to perfect my craft, as it won’t benefit anyone if I get a job and then suck at it. I will try to give myself weekly and monthly goals to stick to, to help focus my journey. The monthly goal for February is:

DEFINE MY IMAGE AND BRAND.

So, starting tomorrow, I will be embarking on this crazy road to becoming a working actor. Any help anyone can give, recommend, gift, or otherwise assist me in procuring would always be most appreciated.
